I saw this and it brought back painful memories.

I'd like to thank Sam, Sarah and Matt for being there when I needed them. Yeah it's almost 3 years later, but still...

I watched almost the entire fourth season of Dallas in one day.

I am not at Sass because I just woke up from an unexpected nap.

Thank you.

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by blogging.

New project I'm proud to be a part of. When I'm not posting here, I'll be writing there. So I'll link the two up.

Meet my new favorite local band.

The demos aren't up to snuff, but I saw their live show tonight and was blown right out of my socks in a way a local band hasn't done live since GLMS two years ago.

Drinking and bloggings nay mix.

12:21 am: [protected post] toniyhgt i have completeley destroyed one of my new year's resolutions, which was actually a secret resolution of mine anyweays. either way, i just read a whole book by joan didion and drank alot of johnie walker black.

apparenlty the juan maclean are covering moodymann. i think dorkwave should do an cover EP of albums songs. tomorrow's creative endeavour will involve brunch with the matt macdear. don't be surprised if he and i do a country record toegether one day. just sayin. look out.

i like matt. we talk about things other than music and share the same outlook on life sort of. he's a good guy. / burnch tomorrow at atlas should be funny. maybe i'll fuck a melon bowl or something.

i miss havng slsk member privlidges. i need new hooksups. looking for that jonathon cain record he did right before he joined journey. fucking slick pop. that's my new thing. slick pop. i listened to 10 records from canadian arena rock bands from the 80s this week including prism, saga, glass tiger, rush, and others. also, a bunch of late 70s, late 80s kiss records. there's some good PAP in those goldmines.
a WEALTH of pop knowledge.

my compilation of the year last year, the one thing i didn't play at any dorkwave gig or to anyone else, my secret weapon and most elitist of music joys was this:
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:ockbu3esan5k~T1

"these songs were made at the precise moment trash was made with both skill and spirit, walking the fine line between disposable garbage and oddly resilient, eternally infectious junk."

that's what dorkwae is all about, charlie brown.

the pug is slobbering on my foot. i think eh's asleep. he hates the juan maclean, but like when they cover bryan adams. then again, who doesnlt?

CKY's "Disengage the Simulator" is the best non-Helmet Helmet song ever.
Book read last week: The Beatufiul and The Damned- F.Scott Fitzgerald
This week: Suze Orman's Money Book For The Young Fabulous and Broke.

Dr. Hook's 1979 album Sometimes You Win is too painfully suffering from Weller/Wham syndrome. except where x=weller(style council) and y=george michael(wham), x marks the hook and y is now played by Steely Dan.

Normally I'd post a link to samples here, but I can't find one online.
Sorry.

My goal this year is to read a book a week. Not just read and skim and casually enjoy, but truly absorb the language and style each book represents.

The first book was F. Scott Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise.

New Year's Eve Recap 2005

1. as i was pulling away from the ponchatrain this afternoon post-loadout, mama cass' "make your own kind of music" was on the radio. although the song has made a revival thanks to Lost, i felt that the song was a fitting closing to an otherwise frenzied night:

Nobody can tell you, there's only one song worth singing
They may try to sell you, because it hangs them up to see someone like you
But you've gotta make your own kind of music
Sing you own special song
Make your own kind of music, even if nobody else sings along.

driving away in a deserted downtown area, i wish there were credits rolling over the screen.

2. not having been home in nearly three days, i noticed a gift unwrapped from my aunt and uncle. it was Cobain's journals. right before i took a shower, i randomly skipped to one of the pages and came across this passage:

"I mean, I like to be passionate and sincere, but I also like to
have fun and act like a dork.
Geeks Unite."
